The 75th Name-List of Variable Stars We present the next regular Name-List of variable stars containinginformation on 916 variable stars recently designated in the system ofthe General Catalogue of Variable Stars.
| Photometric Observations of Two Cool Stars: HD 17025 and HD 38392 UBV(RI)c observations of a G6/G8IV star HD17025 suggest avariation period of about 9 days. The light curve has a marginalamplitude of about 0.015 of a magnitude but is poorly defined and needsan independent confirmation. No prominent chromospheric emission isvisible in a spectrum of this star. The other observed star, a K2 dwarfHD38392, did not show measurable light variations over a two weeksperiod of observations.
| Preliminary UVBY calibrations for G and K type dwarf stars Four-color uvby photometry for several hundred late-type dwarf stars oftypes G, K and M is discussed. Mean values of photometric indices aregiven for MK spectral types between F8/G0V and M2V. Preliminary standardrelations between the four-color indices are derived. Based onparallaxes and results from high-dispersion spectroscopic analyses, calibrations of the observed indices in terms of Mv, log Te and Fe/Hhave been derived. The means errors are 0.29 mag, 0.009 dex, and 0.17dex, respectively. The calibrations are valid for class-V stars of allpopulations between G0 and M2. If extreme population-II dwarfs areexcluded, the mean error of the abundance calibration decreases to 0.13dex. Calibrations in terms of log g have been attempted,, but the lowaccuracy of the spectroscopic g determinations does not inspireconfidence in the results. The possible contribution of a'fourth-parameter' variation to the mean errors of the calibrations isbriefly discussed. This fourth parameter could be the intrinsic heliumabundance of the stars.
| The radial pulsation modes of the Delta Scuti stars, and their nonuniform period distribution From Breger's 1979 survey of the observational data for the Delta Sctvariables, radial pulsation modes are assigned to 83 of these stars. They can pulsate in the four lowest modes: F, 1H, 2H, 3H, and perhapsalso in 4H and even 5H. Confirming the author's earlier suggestion, theapparent nonuniformity in the distribution of Delta Sct stars both withrespect to period and in the period-luminosity diagram may naturally beattributed to pulsation in differing modes. Semiempirical (P, L)relations are derived for the four lowest modes, and the semiempiricaland theoretical period ratios are compared. Several statisticalrelationships are obtained, and in certain cases criteria are proposedfor determining the radial-pulsation mode.
| Estimation of spectral classifications for bright southern stars with interesting Stromgren indices This paper investigates the degree of success with which uvby photometrycan be applied to predict spectral classifications for 947 A, F, and Gstars brighter than an apparent magnitude of 8.3 and with four-colorindices indicating some kind of interesting, unusual, or peculiarspectrum. One or several possible spectral classifications are estimatedfor each star from photometry alone, double stars are distinguished, andthe estimates are compared with published classifications. The resultsshow that the framework provided by uvby photometry can be extended toinclude most G and K stars, reddened stars, peculiar stars, and certaintypes of double star.
